Put flour, salt, and pepper into a paper sack. Drop meat cubes into sack and shake well, being sure to cover meat well. |

Heat a large dutch oven. Add fat. When fat is hot, add meat, and brown on all sides. |

When meat is browned, add water. Top with sliced onion. |

Cover and simmer for 2 - 2 1/2 hours. |

About 30 minutes before serving, add potatoes and carrots. You may need to add additional water. Cover and simmer until done. |
